I hate to be photographed. I’ve often thought it’s why I became a photographer—so I can stay safely behind the camera. When I photograph people, I avoid the over-controlling and over-direction clichés. I create an environment of emotional safety and playfulness that encourages the subject to become part of the creative process. This is the result of many years photographing camera-reticent corporate CEOs, attorneys, bankers, engineers, and managers for annual reports and capabilities materials. I look for a certain informality, but high credibility in the final images—like these below.
